Two-part polyester putty not sticking

RELATED TOPICS: PUTTY
Q: I have tried a two-part polyester putty before, but found it didn’t “dig into” the plastic like the hot modeling putties (like Squadron). The stuff didn’t always stick.
Chuck Stewart

Ken: That could be several things, Chuck, including the age of the putty; your ratio of putty to catalyst; the prep of the surface you’re applying the putty to; or even whether the mix was beginning to set up while you were applying it.

One other tip might be to scuff the surface with sandpaper (around 200-grit) to provide some bite for the putty.

Be really careful with all the above steps, and you shouldn’t have any problems.

Some one-part putties such as Squadron and Bondo, are basically thick primer with lots of solvents that will etch into the plastic.

I’ve used this type of putty for small projects, but for the big stuff, I go with two-part polyester putty.
