Method for making louvers

We recently asked our readers to share their favorite method to make louvers. Our request prompted Dennis Sloan of Riverside, California, to describe his technique:

Tip: I use pieces of Evergreen grooved, styrene clapboard siding. Evergreen siding is available in several different sizes, and can be found in most good hobby stores or on line.

Cut a small section of siding from the large sheet, and graft it into a matching opening cut into the body panel. Then use a small jeweler’s file to round off the side edges.

Use a small V-shaped jeweler’s file to create an opening (or at least, an appearance of one) in the louver.

Be careful, and file lightly. Using this filing technique, I can complete about one louver per minute.
