Painting rims with axle bosses on their backsides

Tip: I have found that a simple way to paint rims with axle bosses on their backsides is to use a lid from a microwave soup or pasta container. These lids have four small relief holes in them, which allows you set the pins on the rims in there for brush- or spray- painting.

If the rims have axle bosses larger than the holes, all you need to do to is to cut an X slit over each of the holes, and push the pin into place. After the rims have dried, you can keep them in this lid to hand-paint the lugnuts or other small details.

The lid also is a great place to keep the rims until you need to place them in the tires. The large lid is more difficult to misplace than four separate wheels!
