Scania R620 Atelier
Italeri No. 3850
Model Type: Injection-molded styrene
Molded Colors: Gray, black, metallic blue, clear
Scale: 1/24
MSRP: $68.00
Pros: Engine, chassis, interior
Cons: Poor windshield fit
This is a nice kit of the Scania, with just a few hiccups along the way.

The quality of the moldings is good, but the black plastic that the engine is molded in is soft and easily damaged. Most of the blue parts are for the body.

The chassis built up well, hampered only by the need to remove mold seams and ejector-pin marks. The engine is a nice unit, looking every bit the part of a large diesel power plant.

After I built up the interior, featuring two beds, seats, pedals, and steering wheel, the body was glued to the outside. I painted the body parts before assembly, to avoid having to mask windows.

The precut chrome stickers really make the front end pop. They went on easily and stuck fast.

The windshield fit proved to be the biggest hassle; it took some work to get it looking halfway decent.

The kit contains dramatic eagle decals, but I liked the plain blue better. The decals I used were thin, well printed, and responded to Micro Sol.

I enjoyed building the Scania. I recommend the kit to truck fans, and any modeler looking for an escape from the ordinary.
