Pros: Combines cast-resin interior with mid-1950s promo model body
Cons: Body needs considerable cleanup, poor body-bumper fit, distorted windshield

JoHan Models' 1956 Plymouth Belvedere four-door sedan promo is now available as a curbside kit that includes an interior by Best Resin and a vacuum-formed clear-plastic windshield.

The body captures the Belvedere's "Forward Look" styling, but the tooling shows its age here and there. The mold-separation lines took more effort than usual to remove, and two sink marks in the lower edge of the trunk took some filling, too.

I stripped the chrome from the bumpers and sanded away their mold-separation lines before "rechroming" them with Alclad II chrome lacquer.

The interior is cleanly cast, though interior bucket is a little shallow - undoubtedly to squeeze it in above the original promo's flat bottom plate.

My model's windshield was marred with heavy distortions; I replaced it with an injection-molded piece from an original promo. I also replaced the generic blackwall vinyl tires with whitewalls from AMT/Ertl's Chrysler 300 kit.

My first car was a turquoise-and-white '56 four-door, so I used Tamiya spray paint to match its scheme. I'm thrilled to finally have a model of "my" car.
