Throughout the 1960s, the Pettys  proudly and successfully raced and won under the Chrysler Plymouth banner. It became quite a shock to many that for the 1969 season, Petty Enterprises chose Ford to carry the number 43.  

While starting off with cars from Ford/Holman-Moody, Maurice Petty quickly discovered how to get the most power out of the new Ford engines.   Richard went on to win 10 races in 1969 and finish second in the points.
